FOUNDATION FOR BUS STAND IN JK GROUNDS BY JUNE 8
A meeting of all those concerned with Jeevannarayana Katte (JK) Grounds, the controversial location for constructing a bus stand, would soon be called, Cheluvarayaswamy, Minister for Transport, told reporters here yesterday. The foundation stone for the new bus stand would be laid before June 8, 2006, the Minister said. "The present bus stand is congested and has no space for expansion. It has become a necessity for the KSRTC authorities to find a new place," he said, adding that a decision on the place will be taken after holding meetings with agencies and people related to the proposed site. "We cannot acquire any ground or site without convincing the concerned owners of the land," he said while referring to JK Grounds. Legal hurdles on acquiring the land on the JK Grounds would be cleared once the authorities were convinced about the place, the Minister disclosed. In the meanwhile, the JK Grounds row has taken a new twist with the Government permitting the Police Department for the construction of Devaraja Police Station. Disclosing this to Star of Mysore, Dr. S. Prasannashankar of IMA said that the Government's action was illegal as the JK Grounds khata was in the name of Mysore Medical College Alumni Association.
