DC FLAGS OFF AIDS AWARENESS JATHA
Deputy Commissioner S. Selvakumar flagged off an awareness jatha from Mysore Medical College (MMC) premises here this morning as part of National Volunteers' Blood Donation Day and World AIDS Day. Nursing students of K.R. Hospital, JSS Hospital and B.M. Hospital, office-bearers of Ashodaya Samanvaya Samithi, Asha Kirana Charitable Trust, RLHP, Kiriya Pushpa Kalyana Kendra, Government ITI students and others numbering about 300 took part in the jatha which passed through Shivarampet, K.R. Circle, Hardinge Circle and culminated at Nazarbad DHO Office where a function was held at the Doctor's Bhavan. The participants held placards with legends 'Use Nirodh to control AIDS', 'Donate Blood and Save a Life' etc., and also distributed pamphlets to the passers-by to create awareness about AIDS prevention and the value of blood donation. The jatha was organised jointly by the District Administration, Zilla Panchayat, District Health and Family Welfare Department, Mysore District Red Cross Society K.R. Hospital, District NSS and NCC Units, Mysore and Karnataka AIDS Prevention Institute, Karnataka State Haemophilia Society, Mysore Medical College, Mysore City Corporation and Indian Medical Association (IMA), Mysore Branch. Dr. N. Anand, District AIDS Nodal Officer, Dr. C. Rajan, IMA President, Dr. D.S. Vidyashankar of Indian Red Cross Society, Dr. B.D. Satyanarayana, Medical Superintendent, K.R. Hospital, Dr. Manjunath, K.R. Hospital Blood Bank Officer, Dr. Vasudeva Nayak, HoD (Medicine), K.R. Hospital, Dr. Mohammed Ghouse Sharief of K.R. Hospital and others were present.
