MRC Hospital Mega Eye Camp
A free eye screening and cataract operation camp organised under the joint auspices of Rotary Mysore and Mysore Race Club (MRC) Charitable Trust began this morning at MRC Eye Hospital in Siddarthanagar here.
About 300 patients had lined up in the morning and nearly 1,000 are expected from the city and districts of Chamarajanagar, Mandya and Kodagu. Screening of eyes will go on till evening and those deemed necessary will undergo free cataract surgery with fitting of intraocular lens tomorrow.
Past District Governor of Rotary R. Guru inaugurated the camp by lighting the lamp. Presiding over the function, M.A. Manjunath, President, Rotary Mysore, said that the Rotary Mysore was started in 1944 with a service motto and has been serving the people with blood donation and eye screening camps given top priority. About 500 tricycles have been distributed to disabled people, along with artificial limbs.
A round-the-clock blood bank is coming up at Chandrakala Hospital in Vijayanagar. Rotary, in association with Star of Mysore collected about Rs. 69 lakh in 90 days for the tsunami victims and also built a colony at Mudaliarkuppam, recalled Manjunath saying that he himself had donated blood 65 times so far.
Dr. C.D. Sreenivasamurthy, Chairman of Hospital Committee welcomed. Trustees Nanaiah, C.P. Chinnappa, Dr. M.N. Doreswamy, Rohinikumar Babu, Sanathkumar, C.N.N. Murthy, Community Service Director Khalim Mohammed, Rtn. D. Ram Singh and Rtn. Venkatesh were present.
