PULSE POLIO DRIVE BEGINS
The first round of Pulse Polio drive for the year 2007 was launched today at 8 am by Zilla Panchayat President Raja-mma by administering Polio drops to children at the Maternity Hospital in V.V. Mohalla here. Deputy Commissioner S. Selvakumar, Corporation Commissioner Dr. K.N. Chandrashekhar and Hospital Medical Officer Dr. Bhageerathi were present.Three hundred Pulse Polio booths, including 10 mobile ones are functioning in city and will administer Polio drops to children below five years of age till 5 pm today. 1,200 volunteers belonging to Lions, Rotary and other organisations and staff from various hospitals rendered their services. Four volunteers at each booth were administering Polio drops to children with 50 doctors overseeing the drive. State Nodal Officers of Pulse Polio drive from Bangalore, Dr. Parvathy, Dr. Uma and Nursing Superintendent Shantha supervised. Booths at bus stand, Railway Station, Zoo and Palace were administering Polio drops to the children of tourists. Booths were functioning at K.R. Hos-pital, Cheluvamba Hospital and Children's Hospital in city and at all the Primary Health Centres. City Corporation Statistics Officer Nanjundaswamy told Star of Mysore that the drive will cover 80 per cent children in the city today. A total of 1,565 Polio booths with 6,575 volunteers under district Health Officer Dr. Srinivas were pressed into service in the district. Teams of volunteers will pay a door-to-door visit to the houses in city from tomorrow till Jan. 10 to administer Polio drops to children below five years, who have missed the chance today.
