DOCTORS TREAT RASIKAS WITH OLD HITS, HEALTH TIPS

A combination of health tips and music literally provided a musical therapy to the audience at Kalamandira this morning, where doctors of city rendered songs of yesteryears and also provided answers to queries on health matters.

The programme Radio Karanji sponsored by SBI Life was organised under the joint auspices of AIR Mysore and Kannada and Culture Department.

Neuro-surgeon Dr. M.S. Bhaskar, ENT Specialist Dr. M.S. Natashekar, Pathologist Dr. A.L. Hemalatha and Dermatologist Dr. P.A. Kushalappa participated.

The two-hour programme which began at 9.30 am featured 15 songs from Kannada and Hindi movies. The programme was compered by Rajalakshmi Sreedhar and S. Subramanya and was broadcast live on the AIR Mysore FM channel. Over 300 rasikas at the auditorium were feasted to the lilting oldies.

The programme began appropriately with a song on Ugadi penned by poet S.V. Parameshwar Bhat and sung by G. Pushpalatha.

The health queries began with Rajalakshmi Sreedhar asking Dr. Bhaskar, "Vehicle density is increasing so also head injuries with people not obeying traffic signals. How to treat a head injury immediately and its types?" Dr. Bhaskar replied, "Head injury can be superficial on the skin or could be on the bone. The former is simple and if bleeding is arrested there is nothing to worry.
However, injury to the bone is more serious. The injured person may lose consciousness repeatedly. Water should never be given in such cases and the patient should be rushed to the hospital in a horizontal position".

To a query on pimples, Dr. Kushalappa said, "It appears commonly among adolescents in the age group of 12 to 24 years owing to hormone variations. Pimples should never be plucked. Face should be washed with soap at least thrice a day and oily food avoided. If it is alarming, medication may be needed."

Dr. Hemalatha began the programme with the title song from Sathyam Shivam Sundaram followed by the duet from Puttanna Kanagal's Bellimoda with Dr. Natashekar. The audience could not resist humming, when Dr. Kushalappa sang Bare bare chandada chaluvina thare from Nagarahavu.
