GOVERNOR STAYS AUTONOMY TO MYSORE MEDICAL COLLEGE
Karnataka Governor T.N. Chaturvedi has issued an order staying the grant of autonomy to Mysore Medical College, Bangalore Medical College and Dental Colleges in the State. The Governor's action follows a complaint by the Central Committee of the Karnataka State Health and Family Welfare Services and Medical Education Department employees.
Colleges which have already been granted autonomy are reported to be vexed by many problems. Even as those problems have not been resolved, why grant autonomy to the medical and dental colleges, they have questioned.
Further, the stipulations laid down by the Medical Council of India (MCI) in matters of recruitment of faculty, promotions and also management are not being adhered to in the autonomous colleges, they said. The outfits of employees had submitted a memorandum to the Governor under the leadership of their President Dr. Shashidhara Buggi.
