Doctors apathy claims life, alleged
Tension prevailed at K R Hospital premises here on Monday morning when relatives of a man who died at the hospital, staged a protest alleging that the death was triggered due to the alleged negligence of the hospital doctors. The protest was staged along with the body of Riyaz Pasha (31) of Shantinagar, which went on until afternoon. The agitation was called off following intervention by an official of the deputy commissioner’s office. Riyaz was admitted to the hospital on April 17 following complaints of ulcer. Relatives alleged that Dr Satyanarayana demanded Rs 10,000 for conducting the surgery. Only after arranging Rs 3,000, Dr Satyanarayana’s junior Dr Shivanand performed the surgery on April 20. But Dr Satyanarayana had directed his junior doctor not to give any post-operative care to the patient until the remaining amount is settled.
AJMS activists demanded the arrest of the doctor and also compensation for the victim’s family. When they attempted to block the road, police intervened and prevented them. Probe ordered Speaking to reporters, K R Hospital Superintendent Dr Mahimanjan Singh said the allegations against Dr Satyanarayana will be probed by a single-member committee under Dr Geetha Avadhani. The report will be sent to the government. Though a couple of reports on the alleged negligence of the doctors had been sent to the government, no action has been taken against the ‘erring’ doctors and the hospital staff, the protesters alleged.
