ORTHOPAEDIC MEET IN KODAGU
The Karnataka State Orthopaedic Conference will be held for the first time in Kodagu from Feb. 8 to 10 at Crystal Hall, Madikeri. More than 500 Orthopaedic surgeons from the State and neighbouring States and also post-graduate students in Orthopaedics will participate.
The faculty will include Orthopaedic surgeons and teachers of national and international repute from India and abroad. The Indian Orthopaedic Association President Dr. Goel, Indian Orthopaedic Association President-elect Dr. Shantharam Shetty and OASISCON President and various Heads of Orthopaedic Associations in the country will participate.
The inaugural ceremony of the Conference will be held at Crystal Hall in Madikeri on Feb. 9 at 10.30. a.m. Lt.Gen. B. C. Nanda will be the chief guest. The Deputy Commissioner of Kodagu K.R.Niranjan will be the guest of honour. More than 250 Post-graduate students in orthopaedic surgery will participate in the Continuing Medical Education and advance course to be held on Feb. 8. There will be three workshops to educate the practical working for the PGs on specialised subjects in Orthopaedics like joint replacement, newer fixation techniques in fracture, etc.
The second and the third day of the conference will discuss about recent trends in Orthopedics. Some of the present day problems of the developing countries like the alarming increase in death and disability following road traffic accidents will be discussed besides promoting awareness in prevention of accidents, measures like pre-hospitalisation care in the ‘Golden Hour’and salvaging patients with grievous injuries would be the highlight of the conference.
More than 175 scientific papers from various authors of different institutions will be presented in the conference and discussed, according to a press release from Dr. K. Ravi Appaji, the Organising Secretary of KOACON 2008.
